"A Bell man believes divine intervention saved his family Saturday morning when a plane spiraled out of the sky and slammed into his home.
Steve Yanko, who lives along Route 286 near Saltsburg, was watching television when the crash occurred about 9:20 a.m.
"It was extremely violent," Yanko said Monday. "It was as if a locomotive had hit the house. You certainly don't think a plane had fallen on the house."
Yanko called Westmoreland County 911 and learned his neighbors had reported the explosion and fire. The dispatcher told him a plane had struck his home. He and the family's dog, Asia, escaped through a door on the first floor.
"My wife, on any other Saturday, would be home," he said. But Rose Yanko and one of the couple's daughters, Wendy McDivitt, had left the house about 8 a.m. to attend an auction near Export.
"I believe that it was truly divine intervention, with the exception of the two men who perished. Their deaths overshadow us losing our home," Yanko said"
- Are their times when you were aware that God in His sovereignty protected you from disaster in some way? How did you respond in that situation?
- How do you reconcile the idea of God intervening in the life of the family that owned the house but not apparently intervening on behalf of the people in the plane?
- How has God demonstrated His power to you in the past four weeks?
